Easter Rising 1916
The National Museum in Szczecin - The Dialogue Centre Upheavals | Plac Solidarności 1, 70-515 Szczecin, Polska

Since Saturday, September 8th, our Visitors are invited to see the exhibition "Easter Rising 1916", which will bring them closer to dramatic events from Dublin from over 100 years ago. The uprising, which broke out at that time, opened the way for the Irish people to continue their struggle for independence and, as a result, to gain freedom shortly before Poland.

Ireland has become close to many Poles, although knowledge about Ireland is still not large. Hence the idea of an exhibition prepared by the Irish Culture Foundation. We will see scans of archival photos from the Military Archives in Dublin and the Mercier Press from Cork, as well as biographies of the signatories of the Declaration of Independence. SInce 2016, the exhibition has been presented in various places in Poland, among others at The Greater Poland Uprising Museum in Poznań, The Uprising Museum in Góra Świętej Anny, Museum of Polish Arms in Kołobrzeg, The Racławice Panorama in Wrocław, as well as in Bydgoszcz, in Chrzanów, in Kalisz and in Silesia.

The exhibition is an opportunity to remind that the desire for freedom has become common in Europe during the First World War. The exhibition shows the fight for the freedom of the Irish and it can become an interesting starting point for the debate about freedom, accompanying the celebration of the 100th anniversary of regaining independence by Poland.

The exhibition is open until September 30th 2018.
