Farewell to Two Paintigs

We regret to inform that two precious works of art: "Fishmongers" by August Ludwig Most and "Szczecin. View of the Harbour from the Dunzig River and a Panorama of the City” by an artist signing their works "J.R.", active at the turn of 19th and 20th centuries are leaving our Museum and Szczecin.

The paintings found themselves in the Museum nearly 20 years ago on account of efforts of Dr. Bogdana Kozińska, then the Manager of The Szczecin History Museum. After her request, they were purchased by BRE Bank (present mBank) and handed over to the Museum as a deposit. The works became a crucial element of the permanent exhibition at The National Museum in Szczecin – The Szczecin History Museum in the Old Town Hall. Presently, according to a decision of the Board of the Bank, both paintings are to be put for sale at one of Warsaw auction houses. In current situation, The National Museum in Szczecin is lacking financial resources to particpate in the auction. Therefore we have to expect the loss of these two relics that are precious for Szczecin.

All art lovers are offered to symbolically say goodbye to those two artworks, which are of great importance for the Museum and for the regional identity. Both of them have been exposed at the hall of The National Museum in Szczecin – The Museum of Contemporary Art at 1 Staromłyńska St. We invite all on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday between 10.00 A.M. and 4.00 P.M. On Thursday, the day of Corpus Christi, the Museum is closed.

We also would like to remind that at The National Museum in Szczecin – The Museum of Contemporary Art, "Living in the Present Future", an exhibition co-aranged with Bornholms Kunstmuseum, is still available.
