Temporary Exhibition: A City in the City. 5 Years of NMS–DCU

From May 14th a temporary exhibition entitled "A CIty in the City. 5 Years of NMS-DCU" will be available at plac Solidarności (from the side of ulica Małopolska).

The exhibition summarizing the activities of The Dialogue Centre Upheavals – the youngest branch of The National Museum in Szczecin – that have been taking place since its beginning up to now, will be available until mid-June. Its organizer is The National Museum in Szczecin – The Dialogue Centre Upheavals and it has been co-organized by The West-Pomeranian Marshall's Office. The vernissage has been scheduled for 2.30 P.M. 

The NMS-DCU was officially opened on January 24th 2016 (the so-called technical opening took place on December 17th 2015). 11 years have passed since the idea of ​​Agnieszka Kuchcińska-Kurcz to the launch the facility emerged. During this time, there were held public debates, at which the definition of the "upheavals" was clarified; history lessons in historical places were run and the first exhibitions were displayed. After the decision to locate the facility on pl. Solidarności was taken, a competition was announced for the design of an exhibition pavilion, won by the KWK Promes company from Katowice with Robert Konieczny. After its opening, the Konieczny's building design received numerous prestigious international awards. It was recognized, among others, the best building in the world, and the square above it was awarded as the best public space. The underground permanent exhibition was honored with the Sybilla Prize (the best among historical and archaeological exhibitions in Poland), and received a distinction in the oldest European museum competition EMYA (under the auspices of the Council of Europe) for the activities for the benefit of the local community.

Annually (before the pandemic), about 40,000 people used to visit the NMS-DCU. Many of them took part in debates, book promotions, anniversary events, openings, video diplays, meetings with experts and witnesses of history, concerts. The museum was often visited by teachers and young people from all over West Pomerania - for methodological conferences, as well as Oxford debates, history lessons organized in museum and historical spaces (eg.. Potsdam, Peenemünde, Sachsenhausen, Ravensbrück). Cooperation with numerous entities has resulted in interesting projects (e.g. Virtual Theatre of History, World Voice Festival, etc.). NMS-DCU is part of the Western and Northern Territories Network Consortium, which brings together exhibition and research facilities operating in the territories attached to Poland after the Second World War.
