Due to renovation of the Museum building – the Museum of Regional Traditions (27 Staromłyńska St.), the library and the reading room are closed for readers from outside Museum. Preliminary surveys of the library holdings are done regardless these obstacles and, in special cases and in a limited scope, the book collection will be available for readers from outside the Museum after an order and appointment made by e-mail. We apologize for the inconvenience.

 

The Library of the National Museum in Szczecin collects scientific publications. Its holdings include books, periodicals and special collections – old prints (among others, related to Pomerania), manuscripts, documents of life of the society.

The library holdings amount to ca. ninety thousand volumes. They include Polish and foreign publications, most of all, related to the fields of:

  • art (including theory, history and reviews, museum collections catalogues, Polish and foreign exhibition catalogues, monographs on artists),
  • archaeology,
  • ethnography,
  • ethnology,
  • history,
  • numismatics,
  • museum studies,
  • relic protection and conservation,
  • a range of maritime issues,
  • related fields.

The library collectiion owns unique publications related to Pomerania (the 19th and the 20th centuries). They include: Pommersches Urkundenbuch (Stettin 1870–1990), Pomerania (Stettin 1844, 1946), Pommersche Genealogien (Greifswald 1873, 1878; Berlin 1878), M. Wehrmann, Die pommerschen Zeitungen und Zeitschriften in alter und neuer Zeit (Pyritz 1936), Stettiner Museumsverein (Stettin 1934, 1939), or Settin : [Neuere Bauten der Stadt Stettin] (Charlotenburg 1921) and periodicals: Baltische Studien, Monatsblätter, or Pommersches Heimatkalender. The library collection of old prints includes: D. Cramer, Das grosse Pomrische Kirchen Chronicon (Alten Stettin 1628), J. Micraelius, Altes Pommerland (Alten Stettin 1639), Agenda (…) für die Kirchen In Pommern (Alten Stettin 1691), Ch. Neubaurn, Vera architecturae militaris Praxis (Stargard in Pommern 1679) or Pommerscher Kriegs-Postillion (Leipzig 1677).

The Library of the National Museum in Szczecin is a member of Zachodniopomorskie Porozumienie Bibliotek (West-Pomeranian Library Association). Digital catalogue of the library is available on Zachodniopomorskim Systemie Informacji Region@lnej i N@ukowej RoKaBi (West-Pomeranian Regional and Scientific Information System RoKaBi). The Library cooperates with Zachodniopomorską Biblioteką Cyfrową ZBC (West-Pomeranian Digital Library).

Opening hours

  • Monday–Friday, 8.00–15.30

Offer:

  • wireless Internet,
  • two computers with the access to the Internet,
  • self-service coin-operated copy machine (A4 – 0,20 PLN, A3 – 0,40 PLN).

Collection access and reproduction

  • Readers from outside the Museum may use the collection in the reading room only,
  • outside borrowings are done on the basis of an inter-library form,
  • taking photographs with the reader's own equipment is allowed, unless the objects are not subject to special protection.

Catalogues

Digital catalogues of the Library are in use since November 2012. They fully cover the newest acquirements only.
