Temporary Exhibition: Jerzy Undro "I was a Witness”

The photo exhibition "I was a Witness" by Jerzy Undro, a great photojournalist of the Polish Press Agency, will recall the most important events in West Pomerania, in Poland and in the world since the early 1970s.

The exhibition can be seen from January 18th to March 31st, 2019 in the "Dialogue Space", at level -1 of the National Museum in Szczecin - The Centre of Dialogue Upheavals.

On Friday, January 25th, 2019 at 4.30 P.M., we invite you to a meeting with the author - Jerzy Undro.

 

Jerzy Undro – born in 1947, graduate of the Szczecin University of Technology. Since 1969, he worked mainly with press photography as a photojournalist of the Central Photographic Agency (CAF), and then the Polish Press Agency (PAP). In Poland, he documented the most important events of the last few decades, including August '80 and the introduction of martial law, the oil eruption of Karlin and the tragic fire of the famous Kaskada. In 1980, he photographed the awarding of the Nobel Prize in Literature to Czesław Miłosz in Stockholm, and then the Nobel Prize winner travel in Poland. Undro was a witness to, among others, the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. As a war correspondent he travelled many times to Iraq, where he documented the life of the inhabitants of this country and the service of Polish soldiers, he was also with our army in Chad and many times in Afghanistan.

In 2012, he retired and remained an active photojournalist.

The result of his work are numerous publications in Poland and abroad, exhibitions and album publications. He is the author of, among others, releases about Szczecin and the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, as well as the album "Iraq Mission of Peace". In the archives of the Polish Press Agency, tens of thousands of photographs of his authorship are collected.

Participant of numerous photo competitions and exhibitions, winner of the Grand Press Photo 2007 in the 'events' category. Decorated with the Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta, the Gold Medal "For merits for the defense of the country", and the gold badge "In honor of Polish Press Agency". Awarded twice with the Journalist Duck, granted by the West Pomeranian journalistic circles.
