13th West-Pomeranian Museum Event of the Year Competition

The National Museum in Szczecin's exhibition "Dawn of Pomerania. Collection of Pomeranian Antiquities" developed by Krzysztof Kowalski and the team of the Department of Archaeology the NMS won the prize for the best exhibition of West Pomerania.

The distinction in the educational activity category went to Krystyna Milewska, head of the Department of Education at our Museum, for her educational booklets "Dawn of Pomerania. Collection of Pomeranian Antiquities" and "The Middle Ages at Hand. Hidden Messages in the Art of the 16th and 17th Centuries'.

 

The competition saw a record number of 26 entries from the museums of the whole region. The Jury consisting of Bogdana Kozińska, Małgorzata Frymus, Angelika Rotkiewicz and Eryk Krasucki chose the most meaningful events in the three categories: exhibition activities, education activities and new, very broad category of activities in the field of publishing, conservation, research and information. The competition is held by the West-Pomeranian Branch of the Association of Polish Museum Professionals.

These are the details of the Jury verdict:

In the category of exhibition activities, the Commission decided to award the prize for the exhibition "Dawn of Pomerania. Collection of Pomeranian Antiquities", by Krzysztof Kowalski from the National Museum in Szczecin, for an original exposition of a challenging archaeological collection.

In the category of exhibition activities, the Commission also decided to award two distinctions for:
- the exhibition "Ecclesia Sanctae Mariae. 730 years of St. Mary's Church in Stargard", by Piotr Tarnawski from the Archaeological and Historical Museum in Stargard, for his multi-faceted attempt to tell the history of the collegiate church,
and:
- "Posteralia", a series of events at the Museum in Koszalin, by Irena Przymus, for the concept of a new look at the poster and the interesting realisation of its first edition.

 

In the category of educational activities, the Commission decided to award a prize for the project "Ceramic heritage of the Wolin Island" carried out at the Andrzej Kaube Regional Museum in Wolin, by Karolina Gołębiowska and Anna Molska in cooperation with Dr. Karolina Kokora, for a creative approach to the difficult subject of deconstructed artefacts.

In the category of educational activities, the Commission decided to award two distinctions for:

- the educational booklets "Dawn of Pomerania. Collection of Pomeranian Antiquities" and "The Middle Ages at Hand. Hidden Messages in the Art of the 16th and 17th Centuries", by Krystyna Milewska from the National Museum in Szczecin, for the author's consistent maintenance of the high level of her educational offer,
- for the project "Interesting Places and Monuments of Karlino", implemented in the Museum of the Karlino Land, by Krystian Zalewski, for ingenuity and great enthusiasm in bringing the history of a small town closer.

 

In the category of activities in the field of publishing, conservation, research and information, the Commission decided to award the prize to Jolanta Aniszewska, the author of the book "Zamęt. Czas powojnia w Stargardzie i okolicznych miejscowościach", published by the Stargard Museum of Archaeology and History and Bogucki Wydawnictwo Naukowe, for exceptional documentary meticulousness and the writer's ability to tell the story of the crucial time of war and post-war times.

In the category of activities in the field of publishing, conservation, research and information, the Commission also decided to award a distinction to Karol Matusiak from the Pomeranian Dukes' Castle in Darłowo, the initiator and coordinator of the activity "Implementation of the Project to Create a Copy of the Foundation Stone of Duke Barnim XI", for his creativity in restoring the splendour of Darłowo Castle.

 

The monetary prizes were funded by the West Pomeranian Voivodeship. The competition was held under the honorary patronage of Marshal of the West-Pomeranian Voivodeship Olgierd Geblewicz.
