Misterium Światła. Sztuka średniowieczna na Pomorzu / Das Mysterium des Lichts. Mittelalterliche Kunst in Pommern, exhibition catalogue, ed. K. Krasnodębska, Muzeum Narodowe w Szczecinie, Szczecin 2022, digital publication

The catalogue of the permanent exhibition Mystery of Light. Medieval Art in Pomerania is a comprehensive, 517-page-long and lavishly illustrated study devoted to the monuments of one of the most important and oldest collections of the National Museum in Szczecin.

The catalogue section containing 73 notes is preceded by essays describing the history and significance of the collection and introducing important issues of medieval art and culture in Pomerania. The exhibits on display are mainly works of sacred art from Pomeranian churches. They include bronze and stone sculptures, gilded altars and their remains, including altar figures and panel paintings. The catalogue also covers works of artistic craftsmanship: liturgical equipment, goldsmiths' wares and swords. The catalogue notes of the objects describe their origin, the circumstances of their foundation, their former function and significance, and refer to their sources of artistic inspiration. The scope of the collection and the representative nature of the artefacts make the publication an outline of medieval art in the Pomeranian region within the entire epoch.

The catalogue's graphic design by Academy of Art professor Waldemar Wojciechowski and photographs by Karolina Gołębiowska, Natalia Laskowska, Arkadiusz Piętak and Grzegorz Solecki, which bring out the beauty of Pomeranian monuments, give the publication the character of an artistic album.

The catalogue is part of the project "Common Heritage, Common Future", co-financed by the European Union through the INTERREG VA programme and funding from the West-Pomeranian Voivodeship.

The publication is available free of charge as a PDF file at Common Heritage, Common Future. Central Pomeranian Museums Presenting History and Culture of Pomerania in "Publications" bookmark.
